Surma Takeaway is already an established jewel among local Indian restaurants and takeaways! SURMA was established in 1994.  Whether hot, mild, creamy or dry dish, Chicken Tikka Masala is claimed to be the UK's national food. Did you know that curry now supposedly outsells even fish and chips?

Owner and Celebrity Chef Oli Khan has bagged some high honours and will doubtless bag many more for his adventurous, exciting and ingenious approach to Bangladeshi and Indian cooking.  He was crowned the National Curry Chef of the year 2002/2003(Local Winner) that year local newspaper described Oli as the “Curry King wins the title for second time” since then curry lover of Stevenage has described Oli curry king of Hertfordshire. British Fusion Food Festival for 2005 / 2006 at which he was one of four specially chosen British chefs. He also took top honours at the BFFF in India in the same year. Oli captured the British Fusion Food Festival 2008 and served the President of Bangladesh. Surma Takeaway was the winner of the Tiffin Cup Local final 2009. He was chosen by online voting organised by MPs in the House of Commons in search of the best curry house in the UK. Oli’s total achievement gained him ‘Best Caterer of the Year 2010’ at the golden jubilee celebration of Bangladesh Caterers Association UK who represent 12000 Indian Restaurant in the UK and  "Best Takeaway in East of England Region 2011" by Spice times Restaurant awards.

2012 Oli’s creativity of Onion Bhajee hit the headline in the news paper where he has created 10kg weight of Onion Bhajee for Taste Of Stevenage.  Oli Khan broke with the unchanging tradition of Indian and Bangladeshi cooking. He believed it was time for radical change. He was inventive and attracted the attention of media critics and food connoisseurs with some of his stunning new creations.  While he retained some of the traditional mainstays on his menu he also turned to fusion with some bold new offerings. He was also acutely conscious of the health hazards of some ingredients, particularly the use of excessive oil, abuse of ghee which in unlimited quantities can cause diabetes and heart diseases. Oli used the minimum of oil and ghee and did away with artificial colouring and other harmful preservatives. He engagingly demonstrated that tasty food need not be rich, over spiced and over cooked. The emphasis was on taste and health, which he insists are not mutually exclusive. Hence his phenomenal commercial and culinary success.

Added to this is his fanatical devotion to hygiene (Scores on the doors) in 2007 which has won his Surma takeaways in Luton FIVE STAR in food hygiene first Indian takeaway in the UK to get five out of five stars,  scored issued by local Borough Council. Later in 2009 Surma in Stevenage got five stars in food hygiene and are holding the five stars to date. The media, too, has heaped praise on his tasty, health enhancing products in the most stringent hygiene conditions. Some of his popular recipes are regularly published by Luxury Hospitality, Quick Bite magazine, The Hospitality, Bangladesh Cuisine, Curry Life, Spice Times, and other Asian magazine and Website across the Country.
